Симметрии присутствуют в природных явлениях, особенно в физике. Со времен знаменитой Noether’s Theorem, которая связывает каждую симметрию с сохраняющейся величиной, изучение симметрий и их следствий в уравнениях механики и математической физики стало постоянно растущей темой. Со времен новаторской работы Evariste Galois понятие симметрии было тесно связано с понятием группы, а в нашей области, требующей дифференцируемости, с понятием группы Lie. Одним из главных достижений является так называемая Marsden–Weinstein Theorem о симплектической редукции, которая позволяет свести динамическую систему к другому фазовому пространству меньшей размерности. Довольно важным является использование групп Lie и их инфинитезимальных аппроксимаций, алгебр Lie. Карта моментов становится мостом, соединяющим динамические системы с более управляемыми алгебраическими версиями. Кроме того, калибровочные теории или построение самой стандартной модели основаны на свойствах групп Lie.
Понятие группы было расширено до понятия группоида, который стал использоваться как в механике частиц (для разработки новых геометрических интеграторов), так и в механике сплошных сред (для изучения однородности, эволюции, роста и старения). Симметрии также чрезвычайно полезны в инженерных областях (например, в робототехнике) и при изучении систем управления и экономики.
Целью этого специального выпуска является рассмотрение различных аспектов важности симметрии во всех этих областях посредством включения качественных статей известных авторов.
Информация о подаче рукописи
Рукописи должны быть представлены онлайн на сайте MDPI путем регистрации и входа на этот сайт. После регистрации следует перейти по ссылке, для заполнения формы отправки. Рукописи можно подавать до указанного срока. Все статьи будут рецензироваться. Принятые статьи будут постоянно публиковаться в журнале (как только они будут приняты) и будут перечислены вместе на веб-сайте специального выпуска. Приглашаются исследовательские статьи, обзорные статьи, а также короткие сообщения. Для планируемых статей в редакцию можно отправить название и краткую аннотацию (около 100 слов) для размещения на сайте.
Представленные рукописи не должны быть опубликованы ранее или находиться на рассмотрении для публикации в другом месте (за исключением материалов конференции). Все рукописи проходят тщательную рецензирование в рамках единого процесса слепого рецензирования. Руководство для авторов и другая необходимая информация для подачи рукописей доступна по ссылке. Symmetry — международный рецензируемый ежемесячный журнал с открытым доступом, издаваемый MDPI.
Перед отправкой рукописи, просим Вас посетить страницу Инструкции для авторов. Плата за обработку статьи (APC) для публикации в этом журнале с открытым доступом составляет 1800 CHF (швейцарских франков). Представленные документы должны быть хорошо отформатированы и на хорошем английском языке. Dear Colleagues,
Symmetries are present in natural phenomena, especially in physics. Since the celebrated Noether’s Theorem that associates to each symmetry a conserved quantity, the study of symmetries and their implications in the equations of mechanics and mathematical physics has been a constantly growing topic. Since the pioneering work of Evariste Galois, the concept of symmetry has been closely linked to that of the group, and in our field, which requires differentiability, to that of the Lie group. One of the major achievements is the so-called Marsden–Weinstein Theorem of symplectic reduction, which allows us to reduce the dynamical system to another phase space with less dimension. The use of Lie groups and their infinitesimal approximations, Lie algebras, are essential. The moment map becomes a bridge connecting dynamical systems to more manageable algebraic versions. Furthermore, the gauge theories or the construction of the standard model itself are based on the properties of Lie groups.
The concept of the group has been extended to that of the groupoid, which has begun to be used both in particle mechanics (to develop new geometric integrators) and continuum mechanics (for the study of uniformity, evolution, growth, and aging). Symmetries are also extremely useful in the fields of engineering (robotics, for example) and in the study of control systems and economics.
The aim of this Special Issue is to address different aspects of the importance of symmetries in all these areas, through the inclusion of quality articles by renowned authors.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Symmetry is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
